The land of the midnight sun...

...another name for Alaska, is where I'm going next. It's the only State I've never visited (unless you count flying over the Aleutians; I don't) so I'm planning to do it up right.

I'll be starting in out Anchorage:

Then taking a train:

To Denali National Park:

I plan to visit the Alaska Pipeline:

After which is a 100 mile riverboat ride on the Yukon River:

Followed by a 1,000 mile cruise ship ride to Vancouver:

Maybe I'll get to do some whale watching:

Those things are just "the tip of the iceberg", so to speak.

Anyway, I'm leaving in a few days.
(I'll be gone a couple of weeks)

Hold my calls. And my emails...

Ah, I had the opportunity once, went fishing with my father for a week in Sitka. Whale watching indeed, they come right over to the boat. You definately get the impression that they are checking you out.
The scenery is just amazing from the air, the land or the sea. You WILL feel small but you'll love every bit of it.
Have fun and be safe!

Looks like an amazing trip, my friend, and I know you'll have a wonderful time. Is there any room for me to stow away in your bag? I've never been to Alaska, either. :-)

I'm jealous. Delani National Park is in my bucket list. Someday perhaps. I will think of you as I take my vacation on the surgeon's table so he can make money to go on vacation.

God speed my good friend. Are you taking your Harley? Guess not with the train and all

Sound great! We were thinking about an Alaskan adventure ourselves. I will need a full report when you get back to help me make my decision. Debriefing will be at 2500 hours...

(:D) Best regards

Everyone I've ever heard speak about visiting Alaska has had nothing but rave reviews for the place.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Bunny:
You're not the first one who's wanted to stow away in my luggage.
:-)

Ms RightWing:
I've heard this bucket list term before; I can't help but wonder how it started.

I'm not taking my Harley, no. You guessed right.

Hawkeye®:
Ummm...2500 hours?! You're messin' with me, right?

I'll be sure to post an update later...

And here I thought one had to tough it out in Alaska. "Mush ,Mush on you Huskies". Like that. But NOOOO, it's all luxury and getting waited on hand and foot.
Make sure you give that Pipeline an extra pat or two ,for good luck.Maybe our limp Chicken Congress will get the message.
Have fun ,keep a diary and take lots of pictures.

I am so jealous, I have not been back for a visit since the summer solstice of '88.
When I was a child we lived north of Fairbanks and had a great view of Denali (then known as McKinley)
Have a wonderful (not that you will be able to help it)and safe trip.

Sounds wonderful! Have fun and tell us all about it when you get back (we live vicariously through your adventures, you know!).

Tough it out? Heh, not on this trip; this is the pièce de résistance of my personal "Discover America" tour. Maybe on a subsequent trip (or trips) I'll rough it a bit.

Oh, and I do intend to take lots of pictures.

Nylecoj:
This will be my first visit, but probably not my last.

Beerme:
Having fun is definitely the plan, thanks...

Enjoy yourself! Watch out for icebergs ... or maybe dead Polar Bears.

Looks like a fun trip!
